Wired xbox360 controller not working in emulators

I have successfully gotten recalbox to work with my ps3 and my wireless xbox 360 controllers however I cannot get wired 360 controllers to work. Emulationstation works with the controller and when I launch an emulator, on the bottom of the screen it will show me that a wired xbox 360 controller is connected, however no buttons work. I have tried editing the system config file to load the xbxdrvr but the controller still doesn't work.   What could I be doing wrong?

Have you tried to unplug then plug back the wired xbox 360 controller while in emulators ?
