3.5 inch screen

Im turning my pi2 into a portable gaming system by removing the ethernet and changing the usb sockets to single stacks etc to thin the board down, put a screen on and a thin battery in the newly created space between the screen and pi. I'm after a 3.5inch screen but they all seem to function off the gpio pins and required some specific OS. would it be possible to keep recalbox and still use one of these Adafruits style screens?
