Audio only in EmulationStation

Im running current recalbox image from hdd in an old pc. video out is vga, audio out is 3.5mm jack on pc. When i boot the system i hear intro music and once the menu loads i hear the bgm. I have no audio once i boot a game however. I have tried changing audio settings in the retroarch menu after launching a game but none of the settings seemed to make a difference. The only system that seems to have functioning audio is mupen for n64 games.
