Why pc-fx only on rpi4?

Really because it is 32 bits console with nec v810 cpu which is their own simple architecture based on pc engine. Pc fx ga emulation should work as well because it is now 64 bits

Maybe the "old" Pi's are not "powerful" enough to emulate this ?

I'm afraid they will not.
I'm using a Pi 3B+ by myself and set the Overclock Option to "Extrem" (1500 Mhz) and even than not all Games will work.

@alvin i know but mednafen runs s m o o t h which allows you to emulate nec pce pcfx sega saturn(and about sega saturn theres yaba sanshiro which runs nice on rpi3b+).

If I get it right you're running Sega Saturn on a Raspberry Pi 3b+ with Recalbox 8 ?

It says none of the Sega Saturn Emulators in Recalbox 8 is compatible with a Raspberry Pi 3B+.

So how did you get this to work ?

With "nec pce pcfx" you mean

1. "NEC PC-Engine" and "PC-Engine CD" this works fine on my Pi 3B+ with Recalbox 6 using the "MEDNAFEN_SUPERGRAFX" Emulator-Core

2. "NEC PC-FX" - This Emulator isn't running on a Raspberry Pi 3, because it's not compatible. Just look here:

   Maybe it's because the Pi 3B isn't "powerfull" enough to emulate this or is simply not compatible with this Emulator.

alvin, i just forced retroarch using console hack and installed mednafen and yaba sanshiro cores.
content did not list, so it could be opened with libretro w/o any args
