Can't rebuild all mame roms

Hi   I've recently bought a pi2 pre set up as a retro gaming rig, I'm just having a little trouble with mame roms. I downloaded the complete .78 mame romset and scanned it through clrmamepro but it skips all of the roms starting with letters G all the way to roms starting with W saying not needed then works again to Z. And the same when I try to rebuild I've ended up with a directory missing all roms G through to W. I'm thinking it may be an incomplete mame2003.dat file maybe? If so can I change it? Why use clrmamepro if you have the right romset ? you don't need it at all
