The games in ADF format start without any problem. Only WHDL...

Think about which controller/keyboard were connected so far.
example: when turrican worked, was just one controller connected, or another controller, or maybe a keyboard too...
try it with your different variants (maybe reboot after using next variant)

it can be an assignment issue.
