Roms over the 256mb Emulation Station limit wont transfer

Help I have Gamecube and PS1 and Dreamcast games over the 256mb rom limit on Emulation Station on my pc. What do I do? I have tried to split them but the emulators do not see the roms.

@boxman use WinSCP to transfer or external usb key / hard drive for your share partition (selectable through Emulation Station menus)
