[RETROPIE THEME - PORT POSIBILITY] Cardboard Mini NES + Nes mini and Famicom mini themes

  • Hi @ruckage I am the author of the post of this forum, I saw your theme for retropie and I fell in love with it has a great look that reminds me a lot of the mini nes, I want to thank you for offering to port this theme to recalbox.

I understand that it takes a lot of work to draw all the systems so we will wait for the necessary time and we will be watching for progress. For my part I have no knowledge on the subject but if I can help you in something here you have me for whatever.

@azvarel thank you very much for contacting @ruckage.

    Greetings and thanks.

  • This theme would be a great addition to recalbox. Very retro, very... Nintendo-ish.
    I love it!

  • @ruckage That's a very nice one, and would be very suitable for 240p as @idarius asked.

One question though : I thought that pads and buttons are not themable (yet ?). So I'm curious to know how you changed the dpad and buttons

This kind of theme needs a work on emulationstation because for the moment the "system view" is not themable.
    Maybe in the future...

Sorry I confused with another theme

    a picture displayed as "extra"

  • @rockaddicted one more thing we should consider making themable ...

  • Staff

yep it is planned, but no really time to work on that for the moment.

  • @rockaddicted i'm talking about writing down the theme feature, not starting the dev asap ;)

Let the community take care of the themes ;)

  • Thanks for the replies and sorry for not replying sooner.

No problem. I can't give a time frame for when I will port it but I have a list of systems I'm working on for Retropie and once they are done I can look into porting it to recalbox - I don't think it will be too difficult but it's best to do once the theme is complete otherwise I would need to maintain several different versions.

    Hi @ruckage !
i hope you can do a 240p 4/3 version of your theme when finished, would be wonderfull on a CRT ;)
    Anyway, great job !

Hi. A 4x3 version is planned though probably not in 240p as the graphics are based on a 270 pixel height image as that divides cleanly into 1080p which was my target resolution.

Hi. As @rockaddicted says it's just an "extra" image as it was the best way to do it currently.

Not sure if recalbox supports carousel theming yet but it's recently been added to Retropie so I re-themed the system carousel as well. It uses the <feature> tag so on versions of ES that don't support the carousel theming it will still work and reverts back to the the old logos.

Here is a video of the new carousel in action, you can also see all of the systems supported so far:

    Hello,

I'm author of this theme. The theme is not finished yet but I will be happy to port it myself when it's closer to completion. For the most part it will only require some folder name changes (e.g FBA is already supported, it's just recalbox is expecting a different folder name).

So far it supports 42 different systems and more are being added, it will just take a little time as I need to draw backgrounds, logos and icons for each system.

Hallo there i found ur theme , and i was working a litle on there , i love the constructive basic of the theme and i was add some systems ..

If u givme ur permission to finish this theme i will du ,i have some hollidays now and time to dedicate to finish this theme and personalize my packs to ..
I found this theme yesterday and starting add some packs and systems they´re was missing .

Here i leave u a video whit my edition ..
Sory the video is in portuguese , and i did all credits to the autos of the theme like u can see on the video .
    VIDEO OF MY EDITION

Thanks and i hope u enjoy my modifications of your theme .i will work more on there ;)

  • @João-Nuno-Cravinho great work, I inform you that from the forum of retropie in the section of projects and themes you have official post of this topic where the author is updating daily with the new designs. (I send the link by private since the forum marks me as spam, check it)

You will notice that the theme has a much better new look with all the icons of each system redesigned and in carousel.

The author @ruckage has redesigned the whole set of icons of each system, almost finished it has some systems left.

I have seen that you have carried an earlier version of the subject and that you have added something new on your part, good work.

I think it would be interesting to contact the author to further polish the theme and update it with the new carousel design.

Also it would be interesting to comment on some differences between recalbox and retropie when it comes to porting the theme.

They are details that can be added to the time of porting the subject to adapt it, although it is not impresdincible I would like to comment the differences that I notice.

The 90% of Emulation Station is equal in retropie and recalbox but in recalbox starting from the last version the 4.1 we have:

    • System Favorites and System Screenshots (I would design the icon)

    • Icons of each system for the games marked in favorites.

    • The same icons of each system to score each game from one to five.

    • Small differences in the lower bar where the controls come out, in recalbox we have the Y button to add favorites and it is indicated below.

    • The information bar for each system where it says how many games are available.

    • Recalbox has no sound in the menu although it has background songs, would it be possible to add the sounds for the menu to recalbox?

These are the small differences between recalbox and retropie when it comes to porting the theme. Do you think it would be possible to add it at the time of porting?

Mostly it would design the icons of each system or make one general for all as a star for the favorites.

As a last suggestion I would recommend the inclusion of the system "Capcom" or "Capcom Play System" in the menu for all the great titles of this company.

@ruckage what do you think the work of @João-Nuno-Cravinho João-Nuno-Cravinho of the recalbox forum?

  • @nj180grados @João-Nuno-Cravinho
While I appreciate the enthusiasm for my theme I've made it quite clear that I would port the theme myself once I've completed all or most of the systems, I feel this is more than fair. My license terms with the theme are also very clear:

    License

This theme is being actively developed, a great deal of work has been put into the theme and art so please do not use the graphics I have created in other projects (with the exception of any graphics that are an exact copy of of those from the real 'NES classic'/'Famicom mini' menu).

You are free to modify the theme for your personal use only - please do not share modified versions of this theme.

    Commercial distribution is prohibited

You just need to be patient, I have literally put months of work into this drawing everything myself and do not want it to be fragmented, I have a clear idea of how I want each system to look and so wish to work on it alone. I'm sorry but I do not give permission for @ João-Nuno-Cravinho to release this. I hope you understand my reasons and will respect my wishes.

  • @ruckage there is no problem we will wait patiently for this all finished. The reason for the post was to provide you with help since I have considered interesting the fact that the user @ João-Nuno-Cravinho has made his own version of the theme.

We respect your work and we will wait for you to finish it all.

    Thank you.

Do you know if the new ES carousel theming, that use ruckage in his retropie theme, works in Recalbox ES???

    thank!!
