I loose up and down in FBA Titles

Just assembled an arcade joystick (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077FRWMKF/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), it mapped appropriately and works right in menu and NES titles but when I launch FBA games I can't use the up or down axis.
I have negligible experience with Recalbox and raspberry pi. Any help would be much appreciated.
