Yesterday I was trying to play Pokemon Sapphire for GBA, but when I start the rom, it returned to recalbox after a while. I already included the gba_bios.bin file and other games like sonic work on the GBA emulator. Only Pokemon Sapphire and Rubin doesnt work. In another thread I found out that it could have something to do with a game_config.txt file, but I don't know where I should put this file, I already tried to put it in \RECALBOX\System and \RECALBOX\gameboyadvance but it did not work. I would love to play Pokemon since my GBA does not work anymore, could someone help me?

So you have juste to edit the recalbox.conf file, and add anywhere :
gba.core=mgba
The recalbox will switch on this core, and your game start normally.

But the problem don't come from recalbox, but from the retroarch core used. So if you want play to your pokemon games, there is a tricks. Start any gba game, once the game booted, press hotkey + B to open the retroarch options menu. There, go to
Load Content
, then
Select File
. Now go to your gba's roms folder and select your game
/recalbox/share/roms/gba/your_pokemon_game.gba
The game should start. The next time you would like to play to this game, start any gba game, go to retroarch menu option and this time go to
Load Recent
and select your game in the historical. And when you want to save your pokemon games, don't use the in game save, but the savestates (hotkey + X/Y).

And don't forget the name of the rom must be identical with the name inside the game_config.txt. "Pokemon Sapphire.gba", [no] "Pokemon Sapphire (U) [!].gba", [yes]
